Once Caldas, currently fourth in Colombia’s soccer league, have secured a spot in the next round of the Copa Libertadores thanks to a win over Peruvian side, San Martin, El Espectador newspaper reported.
The Colombian team won 2-0 in the first round of the Copa Libertadores group stages in Peru. It was the fourth straight loss for the Peruvian side who finished the game with just nine players after two of them were sent off during the second half.
Wason Renteria scored the opening goal in the 15th minute, while the Uraguayan Matias Mirabaje, added a second from a spectacular free kick in the 74th minute, ensuring the Colombian team’s progression to the last eight of the competition.
Recovering from its relatively poor start to the competition, Once Caldas finished the cup’s first round with seven points from six games, half as many as group leaders Libertad de Paraguay, who had already qualified for the second round.
