Once Caldas were just minutes away from a spot in the quarter finals of the Copa Libertadores when a goal from Libertad ended the Colombian team’s dreams of glory.
With a 0-0 result in the home leg, things were looking good for Once Caldas when Dayro Moreno put the Manizales outfit ahead after 55 minutes in Paraguay. At this point, Libertad needed to score twice to avoid elimination.
The hosts were given a penalty in the 77th minute with Roberto Gamarra converting from the spot, but it looked like Once Caldas would manage to hold on and advance on away goals.
It was not meant to be however as a striker from Gamarra flew past Once’s keeper and handed Libertad a 2-1 aggregate victory.
Once Caldas were the only remaining Colombian team in the tournament after Independiente Medellin failed to survive the group phase.
