The northern Colombian department of Cordoba will, from March 25 to 27, be filled with the sound of traditional folk from the Caribbean coast, as it hosts the Festival of Cumbiamba.
The celebration will take place in the town of Cerete and feature traditional music and dance from the region – specializing in the Colombian-Caribbean music genre, cumbia.
The event will also include various other competitions, such as beauty pageants, and will be held in the town’s Santa Teresa stadium, which has the capacity for thousands of spectators.
The three-day festival pays tribute to Juan Carlos Nieves Oviedo, “Juancho Nieves,” a musician of the Cordoba municipality of Sahagun, who has helped Colombian music to transcend national borders and be heard around the world.
