After the Colombian military and judicial officers carried out an operation arresting three locals on drug trafficking charges, neighbors detained the 22 soldiers and prosecutors.
The incident took place in Campamento in the state ofAntioquia, where 14 armed soldiers and six judicial branch members went to arrest a minor, the president of the area’s Community Action Board, and an adult, all supposedly linked to a cocaine processing plant nearby.
When community members discovered what was happening, they approached the group of officials shouting demands to free the three arrestees.
Eventually, protesters surrounded and blocked them inside a school, where they have been unable to leave due to “security reasons.”
The government of Antioquia and local ombudsman went to the Campamento to negotiate the release of the soldiers and officials with the townspeople, although their demands for the release of the three arrested citizens remain unchanged.
