No money for unemployment insurance: Finance Minister

President Uribe’s plan to launch an unemployment insurance in Colombia
will most probably not work since the government does not have enough
money, Finance Minister Oscar Ivan Zuluga said Monday.

Uribe proposed to let workers pay for their own unemployment benefit. Workers unions rejected the plan saying that most Colombians do not earn enough money to survive let alone to pay an unemployment insurance.

The proposal, despite teh fact it will prbably fail, will be presented to the Labor Agreement Committee on July 20.
