The Colombian ambassador to Peru reported that nine of the tourists trapped by heavy rains and mudslides in Machu Picchu were rescued Thursday morning.
Officials stated that the fifteen Colombians, who are still awaiting rescue, are in good health and will be picked up later today, though heavy rains continue to complicate rescue efforts.
El Tiempo reported published a list of the rescued people.
“The Colombians aren’t sick and their lives aren’t in danger, the Peruvian government has been providing food and water”, said Maria Claudia Mosquera Jaramillo, Colombian ambassador to Peru.
Over 2,000 tourists were stranded due to inclement weather.
The rescued tourists will be taken to Cusco then sent home, after having been trapped for five days.
