New details emerged in Colombian priests’ murder/suicide case, which has gripped the nation, reported local media Monday.
Colombians were shocked last week when investigators revealed that two priests found shot dead in Bogota last year had hired their own killers.
Investigators have formally confirmed their belief that clergymen Rafael Reatiga and Richard Píffano Laguado were gay and had decided to die together when one of the men was diagnosed with AIDS.
Reatiga and Píffano were discovered in a car in a deserted neighborhood on January 26. An autopsy revealed that Reatiga had AIDS an Syphilis.
Authorities also said patrons of the Bogota gay club Fercho confirmed that Reatiga had been a regular at the club.
Family members refused to believe the findings, saying there are many inconsistencies in the investigator’s reports. “Who would go out into the street and hire their own killer?” said Piffano’s sister Fabiola.
