Navy seizes ton of cocaine

The Colombian navy seized more than a ton of cocaine that was being transported by motorboat along a river in the Arboletes region in the Antioquia department to the Caribbean.

The three men aboard the boat attempted to flee and began to throw packages of cocaine in the water when they realized that authorities were in pursuit of them.

However the joint operation between the navy, the anti-narcotics police and intelligence agency DAS apprehended the traffickers and seized the drug haul, which has an estimated street value of $28 million.

The Colombian navy has seized 21 tons of cocaine in Caribbean waters so far this year, according to a spokesperson.
