Navy stops boat carrying explosives

The Colombian Pacific Naval Force has seized 275 lbs of explosive materials being transported by boat along a river in the southwest department of Nariño, El Espectador reported on Friday.

The materials were found in sealed boxes aboard the boat sailing along the Chagui River.

According to security forces, the explosives were intended for use by criminal organizations to attack the population and government forces in the area.

The navy failed to apprehend the people staffing the ship, who managed to flee by camouflaging themselves among members of the public as security forces approached.

Operations continue against criminal organizations in the area.
