The free trade agreement between the United States and Colombia is not on the agenda for the so called “lame duck” session of the U.S. Senate and thus will have to wait until after Barack Obama takes office as President.
The last session of Congress before the end of Republican President’s George W. Bush’ term will be mostly about the current financial crisis.
Colombia was hoping for a ratification before the end of the year, because Obama has always openly opposed a free trade agreement with the U.S.’ South American ally unless Colombia improved the situation for labor workers.
