At least $55,000 was stolen from an ATM in an armed robbery Tuesday night in Barranquilla, Colombian media reported.
Four men reportedly requested a meeting with the landlord of a neighboring building to see an unoccupied room adjacent to the ATM. When the owner let the men in, they held him and his family at gunpoint, tied them up, and gagged them.
The robbers then drilled a hole in the wall and broke into the ATM from behind. Conflicting reports estimate that the thieves may have made off with up to $84,000.
According to various media, the robbery took place in the southern Barranquilla neighborhood of San Felipe at an ATH Banco Popular ATM near the intersection of Calle 70 and Carrera 27.
The six-hour robbery began Tuesday night and continued until about 3:30AM Wednesday.
No arrests have been made in the investigation.
