More than 140 thousand people in Colombia have been affected by the country’s first rainy season, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management said Sunday.
The government agency reported that the heavy rain has affected more than 336 municipalities and that 28,837 families have lost their homes.
According to the report, the first rainy season of the year lasting from March 15 to June 15, has so far destroyed 699 homes and damaged further 14,393.
It was further reported that water damaged 160 roads, 29 bridges, 8 health centers, 82 schools and 34 community centers.
The Pacific department of Choco is the most affected, followed by Cauca in the southwestern part in the country. In Choco 64,215 people are reported affected by the rain, Cauca counts 9,726 victims and Antioquia 7,936.
Unlike in previous years, the rainy season has so far not caused any fatalities
