A report by Colombia’s Comptroller General’s Office has revealed serious irregularities and inefficiencies in the country’s mining industry, reported Caracol Radio Friday.
According to Comptroller General Sandra Morelli, an audit on the Mining and Energy Ministry found more than 100 cases of licensing infractions, which, she added, are subject to sanctions.
Allegations of corruption have surfaced linking various public officials and private contractors in the industry. Morelli has announced that many of the recent discoveries are offenses punishable by law and investigation into the matter should be a priority for the Ministry.
