For the third time in less than five weeks Medellin cops were caught on camera using excessive force against protesters.
A video broadcast on national television showed how, inside one of the city’s metro stations, police caught up on students who were trying to get away from violence near the campus of the University of Antioquia.
In the video, anti-riot police is seen beating on several seemingly unarmed students who were not able to pass through the gates of the station.
In a response, a police commander told Canal Caracol the police was provoked and acted within the boundaries of the law.
Medellin police was caught on camera using excessive force against seemingly unarmed civilians on two other occasions in the past five weeks. The first time was after student protests in April and the second time was on Labor day when activists violently disturbed marches and police took action.
