Colombia news - Monster of Mariquita

A Tolima judge found Arcedio Alvarez Quintero, also known as ‘the
Monster of Mariquita’, guilty of sexually abusing his daughter for over 26 years and
being the father of her eight children, the victim’s lawyer confirmed to newspaper El Tiempo.

According to the attorney, the judge ruled that it was proven that the suspect, a farmer from the village of Mariquita, had violently raped his now 35-year old daughter since she was nine.

The case of Alba Nidia and he monstrous dad received worldwide attention when authorities arrested the farmer in April.

According to the daughter, her abuse began after the death of her
mother when she was five years old. Reports on the exact time of the
start of the rapes range from when she was seven or ten years old, but
certain is that she was 13 when she had her first baby and by the time
she was 35 she had endured 14 pregnancies, all conceived by her father,
the Monster.

Of the fourteen pregnancies, eight children lived.

According
to statements by the daughter, ‘the Monster’ hardly allowed her to
leave the house and did not just rape her, but her daughters too.

The suspect initially denied being the biological father of his daughter to avoid charges of incest, but DNA test proved he was the victim’s viological father.

The judge is expected to sentence Alvarez Quintero on October 3. The man can be given up to twelve years in prison.
