Freed from ties to the Green Party, former Bogota Mayor Antanas Mockus will once again join the pool of candidates for the capital city’s mayoral race.
According to newspaper El Espectador, Mockus will launch his candidacy in approximately two weeks, upon his return from Lithuania, the home of his ancestors, on July 17.
Caracol Radio reported that the former mayor will seek out support in his bid for mayor from the Indigenous Social Alliance (ASI), a party with which he planned to run for president in 2006.
Mockus quit the Green Party in early June following intense disagreements over support from ex-President Alvaro Uribe and his Partido de la U for current Green Party mayoral candidate Enrique Peñalosa.
According to Caracol, Mockus is already preparing his team for the campaign to win one of Colombia’s most important government posts.
