Mayoral candidate Gina Parody unveiled her plan to increase the number of tourists to Bogota to one million by 2015.
Parody,m who is now in alliance with former mayoral candidate Antanas Mockus, detailed her proposal to turn the capital into a world-class tourist destination at a press conference in the picturesque north Bogota neighborhood of Usaquen.
To increase the number of tourists to the city which currently receives 687,000 visitors year, Parody’s strategy includes inviting members of the international press to familiarization tours of the city and working with diplomatic missions so that they serve as a ambassadors for Bogota in their home countries, among other initiatives.
Parody also stressed the need to improve security and reinvent the airport so it becomes a hub airport like Lima. “We will revise and implement the Integral Plan of Tourist Security and in particular increase surveillance at popular tourist attractions,” said Parody.
The mayoral candidate added “We will begin to understand the airport not only as a point of entry but as a brand of the city, a source of employment, an area of high business activity and a logistics center.”
