The armed forces commanders of Colombia, Brazil, and Peru are set to meet Thursday at the shared border of the three nations to discuss security in the Amazon region, reports Caracol Radio.
It will be the first meeting that Colombian commander of the armed forces Admiral Edgar Cely has held with foreign counterparts since his appointment in July.
The summit will address the issues of terrorism and drug trafficking in the sparsely populated jungle region where the three countries meet.
In June a former guerrilla said that for at least two decades the FARC had developed an “extensive network” for smuggling drugs overland into Brazil.
In May, then-Defense Minister Gabriel Silva announced that the FARC had “networks” across the border, including use of “the free [Amazon] port city of Manaus.”
