Colombia’s Armed Forces said Friday they had killed six guerrillas in a joint operation between Army and Air Force.

The clash between the Army and Colombia’s largest armed rebel group FARC occurred in the municipality of El Castillo, Meta, some 70 miles south of the capital Bogota.

According to the Army the dead guerrillas were a part of the insurgency group’s 53th Front and involved in extortions and kidnapping in the area.

The military also claimed to have seized 10 rifles, three pistols, nine grenades, 76 anti-personnel mines, 20 meters of detonating cord, eight bulletproof vests and laptops and hard drives with information on the leadership of the 53th front to which the killed suspects allegedly belonged.

The operation comes is the last of a series carried out over the past week. On Monday, the military claimed to have killed 21 guerrillas from both FARC and ELN.

The government and the FARC are currently holding peace talks in Havana, Cuba. Fighting continues as the parties have failed to agree a bilateral ceasefire for the duration of the talks.
