Colombia’s army found a helicopter in the north western province of Choco, after it was hijacked in June.

National army troops uncovered the body of the Bell 206 helicopter in the southern municipality of Quibdo during a military operation being carried out by the Anti-Drug Trafficking Brigade.

According to initial reports, the helicopter was found in a remote part of Choco, covered by a black sheet of plastic and it appeared that somebody was in the process of painting it from red to blue.

The helicopter was reported missing on June 28 while it was flying a route between the two southwestern cities of Cali and Buenaventura, according to official reports.

It was then uncovered that the plane was hijacked after its two passengers temporarily kidnapped the pilot, robbed him of his watch and tablet among other objects, and forced him to land near the settlement of Condoto located in an area of jungle in Choco.

From here the pilot Diego Alexander Reyes, was left to walk for two hours until he came across the authorities.

The authorities based in Cali sent out a Blackhawk UH-60 helicopter to search for the missing helicopter, which was stripped of all electronic devices with might determine its location.

According to Semana weekly newspaper, the pilot told family members and the authorities that the passengers forced the landing of the helicopter by threatening him with firearms.
