The security measures are set to be as heavy as the music when rockers Metallica take to the stage in Bogota’s Simon Bolivar park this evening.
Some 1,500 police will be employed to stand guard at the site during Metallica’s concert, as well as four tanks and several police trucks, reported El Espectador.
Authorities will also be closing the streets around the park and preventing the entry of under-14s, pregnant women, those under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and those carrying weapons.
The Los Angeles rock behemoths have arrived in the Colombian capital, along with 70 tons of speakers, lights and screens – everything necessary for a spectacular show.
The show will form part of Metallica’s world tour to promote their new album “Death Magnetic,” and promises to be one of the best shows of the year in Colombia’s concert calendar.
Support will come from fellow rockers Mastodon, who in an interview with website Shock, said it was a privilege to perform with the legendary heavy metal band.
Entry to the site for ticket holders will begin at 2 PM – good news for those who have been camping outside the arena since Tuesday.
Other artists set to perform in Colombia in the near future include Aerosmith, Sting and Moby.
