Medellin‘s BarCamp 2011, a free discussion forum on technology-related themes, will take place at the city’s Parque Explora on Saturday, June 4.
This year’s forum, which will take place from 8AM – 6PM, will focus on the themes of collective learning and freedom of information, and attendees will be able to pick and choose from a list of discussion topics.
The event has taken place in the Antioquian city for the past two years, and involves a series of discussions regarding topics such as website development, the use of free software, and projects and innovations taking place in this regard.
BarCamp is an international event model that was first developed in Palo Alto, California in 2005. The model is intended to run counter to a traditional conference, and instead, various individuals define a central topic and the public is free to participate — there is no audience, so to speak, but rather, numerous people who actively participate in the discussions, according to information on the event’s Facebook page.
