Colombiamoda — Medellin’s most important fashion show — will return for 2011, showcasing influential local and international designers with over 1,500 anticipated buyers.
The Colombian fashion event, also known as “the week of Colombian fashion,” will take place from July 26-28, in the city’s Plaza Mayor, where it experienced great success in 2010.
Among the event’s attractions will be 18 important Colombian designers — including a number that attended last year’s event — who will show off their spring/fall 2012 collections on the runway. International guests will include Italian duo Leitmotiv and the Brazilian-Japanese designers Akihito Hira, according to the event website.
Returnees from 2010 include former model Adriana Aboleda with her lightweight, comfortable, and purple-dominated Pink Filosofy line, and traditional Colombian brand Pepa Pombo, returning with a new original clothing line made with six natural fibers and an impressive range of colors, newspaper El Espectador reported.
Approximately 450 exhibitors and over 1,600 international buyers are anticipated, with a potential to bring in as much as $80 million in profits.
The event will also include a showcase by Vogue, as part of an alliance with Inexmoda (the company that puts on the event), allowing local designers to see the latest in international fashion, and a New Business Models forum, in which investors and leading brands discuss business alliances.
A total of 28 conferences will be held over course of the festival, in conjunction with the city’s UPB university.
