Medellin musicians featured at local festival

Colombia News - Sonora Invasion

Medellin is to host the grand finale of the urban culture and independent music festival, “Sound Invasion Fest. 2011” on September 24, an ongoing event that showcases local artists and musicians in public spaces and small venues.

The Sound Invasion festival (Invazion Sonora) has been offering free concerts to the public over the last few months in order to share the sounds of many different local artists. Some of the musicians are known for their local presence and ongoing participation in yearly music festivals such as Alta Voz, as well as Sound Invasion, where others are just stepping on to the scene.

“Invasion is a meeting point where the music industry of the city, which recently finds itself in constant growth and evolution” reports the event’s website. The concerts are an awesome way to hear music that is being made in Medellin, and for those who can’t make the concerts everything is available online via free web-streaming.

The grand finale audio takeover will be Saturday, September 24 and last from 3PM-4AM. In the popular neighborhood of Poblado, the event will be held at Vanilla Resto-Bar on Carrera 34 #8A-37, spilling out into the streets for open air musical appreciation. The cover for the festival is $9, and entry includes special deals on drinks and a 20% discount on food.

Local headliners include: hip-hop group Tejemanejes, electroclash pop band Dead Jessika, electronic fusion DJ Vandelklan, and experimental hip-hop group Militantex. Other performers include M.A.L.A, Zdey, Tejemanejes, Vandelklan, D.Egless, and more.

The Sound Invasion website offers sample sound clips and music videos of the artists, as well as access to live-streaming.
