Colombia’s low-cost airline VivaColombia announced routes to the capital city Quito in Ecuador beginning in October, reported local media on Tuesday.

VivaColombia, a low-cost Colombian airline, still needs the required certification and documents from both Colombia and Ecuador to initiate the flight, according to national newspaper El Tiempo.

VivaColombia, based out of Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro, Antioquia (near Medellin), has been expanding after steady sales of tickets and profits since its foundation in 2012. VivaColombia has six Airbus A320s with four on order.

VivaColombia has hubs in Medellin and Bogota, as well as new international destinations slated to begin service on August 1, including Bogota-Panama City and Medellin-Panama City. Viva Colombia has also planned international routes to Miami, Mexico City and Lima, Peru.

Other airlines have been returning to Colombia in recent years, as well as Colombian airlines creating new international routes.

Just last week, Dutch airliner KLM announced that it would be opening two new routes to Colombia through Cali and Bogota from the airlines’ Amsterdam hub after 20 year absence from Colombian airspace. Air France regularly flies to Paris Charles de Gaulle from Bogota. Lufthansa recently re-opened the Frankfurt – Bogota route.
