A prominent leader of drug gang “Los Rastrojos” was transferred from Cali to a Bogota prison after a rescue plot was uncovered, the National Police announced Monday.
According to National Police commissioner General Oscar Naranjo, the Rastrojos bosses, brothers Luis Enrique and Javier Antonio Calle Serna, ordered a group of hitmen to intercept Hugo Garcia, alias “Chocolate,” in Cali, where he had been detained after his recent capture off the Pacific coast of the western Cauca department.
Authorities who monitored the telephone conversation that detailed the rescue plot of the leader of assassins for Los Rastrojos, said that the plan was eventually aborted.
Four conversations are alleged to be recorded by police detailing the plot to attack the police headquarters in the city of Cali, Valle del Cauca, according to a report from Radio Santa Fe.
Hugo Garcia was transferred to the La Picota prison in Bogota Friday night where he will remain under high security watch.
