Drug trafficker and former paramilitary Libardo Murcia Hernandez, a member of “Los Rastrojos,” has been captured on the Colombia-Venezuelan border, El Espectador reported Thursday.
Hernandez was apprehended in the north of the border city of Cucuta by Colombian National Police working in conjunction with U.S. authorities.
According to authorities, he is responsible for trafficking drugs from the east of Colombia to Venezuela and Central America and was the main link between the drug trafficking organization “Los Rastrojos” and various Mexican cartels. Within the next few hours he will be transferred to Bogota before being extradited to the United States.
Authorities added that Hernandez used to be a member of the Catatumbo Bloc of the now demobilized AUC. After the demobilization, he is said to have joined Los Rastrojos.
Hernandez was an important associate of Los Rastrojos founder, the late Wilber Varela alias ‘Jabon’.
