Local politician assassinated, 10 injured in west Colombia shooting

A local politician has been assassinated and ten bystanders were injured in a shooting in the west of Colombia, local media reported Thursday.

According to the Government Secretary of the municipality of Jamundi, the victim was a former council member. Among the injured were another former council member and a government worker.

Local newspaper El Pais reported that the politicians were drinking in “The Last Tear,” a bar located right in front of the municipal cemetery, around 5PM when armed men on motorcycles opened fire.

According to the Cali Police Department, in charge of the investigation, two men were arrested in relation to the shooting.

Neither the police nor the local government made comments regarding the possible motive of the killing.
