Rafael Pardo, Colombian presidential candidate for the Liberal Party, told Inspector General (IG) Alejandro Ordoñez on Thursday to do his job instead of behaving like a government ally.
Padro is referring to the IG’s recent legal review in which he affirmed the legality of a referendum to change the constitution, and pave the way for another term for President Alvaro Uribe.
The inspector general also advised the president not to continue his weekly televised communal council, after Uribe himself had announced he’d consider suspending it until after the elections.
Pardo stated that Ordoñez’s role is “to impede corruption,” and that the IG should concentrate on “avoiding electoral corruption” and act more like an “independent inspector general” as opposed to a “political ally of the government”.
