Front-running candidate for mayor Bogota Enrique Peñalosa has said he will not form any political alliances in the upcoming election in October.
In an open interview with news agencies Caracol and El Espectador, the three leading candidates for Bogota mayor discussed potential political alliances as the election approaches.
Green Party candidate and former Bogota Mayor Peñalosa announced he would not invite any of them to join his political campaign. He did, however, mention that he felt political empathy for his competitors Antanas Mockus, David Luna, and Carlos Fernando Galan.
The Progressive Movement`s Gustavo Petro felt that he shared political ideas with Galan and would invite him to join his political campaign.
Alianza Social Independiente (ASI) candidate Mockus said he would invite independent candidate Gina Parody to his campaign.
With the issues of public transportation and corruption ranking high for constituents in the capital city, the three candidates denied receiving financial support from transportation related companies.
The latest polls shows that Peñalosa and Petro are in a statistical tie for first place, fluctuating between 16-21% each with Mockus and Galan trailing with about 11-13%. Parody and Luna are each polling at about 9-10%.
