A Colombian Hip Hop Festival seeks to bring a “sense of belonging, harmony, peace, reconciliation” to Bogota.
On October 20 and 21 the festival “Hip Hop al Parque” will be held in the Simon Bolivar Park in Colombia’s capital. The annual festival now in its 16th year is an event that draws thousands of people to experience DJ’s, break dancers, dance battles, graffiti and various prominent artists from the U.S. and Spain.
The event is self-proclaimed as “the most important event of hip hop culture in Latin America.” It will rally under the theme of “Life, Maximum Respect!” which not only allows a forum for upcoming artists and entrepreneurs to display talent and to network, but will also be a space for “the promotion of tolerance and co-existence mechanisms in urban areas through youth participation.”
The festival is adamant of the fact that the atmosphere is not just based upon hip hop itself, but on tolerance and acceptance regardless of gender, ethnicity or background, bringing a positive energy to the park for the two-day festival.
Auditions and the announcement of performers for the event have already been held. The list of winners/performers can be found at Hip Hop BTA. The event is expected to host as many if not more people as last year’s festival, when there were 97,200 people in attendance, according to Indabeat.
