Family dies in west Colombia landslide

Seven members of the same family died Monday after a landslide buried their home, in the Tolima department of Colombia.

Five women and two young girls died in the disaster, which was caused by heavy rains in the Herveo municipality. The husband of one of the women survived.

The surviving victims and the bodies of their relatives had to be evacuated by helicopter, because the rain had blocked the roads, said Herveo’s mayor Fermin Gallego.

This year’s rainy season has been particularly long and harsh, killing more than a hundred so far.
