A Bogota judge has authorized the seizure of assets and freezing of bank accounts belonging to former FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt, who is involved in a bitter divorce with her husband, local media reported Thursday.
Betancourt’s husband, Juan Carlos Lecompte, requested that the legal action be taken in September last year.
The French-Colombian politician now cannot claim in full any of the family’s houses in Colombia, France and the United States or the rights to the book she published last year about her FARC captivity.
Betancourt filed for divorce in March 2010, nine months after the Colombian army rescued her from the Colombian jungle, where she had spent more than six years in FARC captivity. Shortly after, the divorce turned ugly and lawyers of the estranged couple exchanged accusations of infidelity, insults and drug abuse.
The former FARC hostage lives in France and is one of Colombia’s least-liked public figures.
