Judge orders arrest of minister

A Medellin judge on Tuesday ordered the arrest of Welfare Minister Diego Palacio, local media reported.

An exact reason for the arrest warrant wasn’t given, but it seems to be about the minister ignoring the ruling on a civil lawsuit. The penalty for this would be three days in jail.

It’s the second time this term that Palacio’s arrest has been warranted by a judge. The first time the minister was able to avoid going to jail by obeying the judge’s order in another civil lawsuit.

Palacio is also under criminal investigation over the alleged bribery of Congressmen to approve legislation that allowed President Alvaro Uribe to run for a second term in office in 2006.
