Daniela Ospina, the wife of Colombian soccer star James Rodriguez, will join the beach volleyball team of Madrid where her husband is playing soccer, the sports organization said Thursday.

Ospina, 22, will begin training with her new teammates Friday, a spokesperson of Voleyplaya Madrid told Colombia Reports.

The Medellin native on Wednesday paid a visit to the club, where she met her teammates. Ospina said she felt good in her new surroundings and looked forward to resume playing, according to the spokesperson.

According to club president Felipe Pascual, Ospina could help build a fanbase for the sport in Madrid, and stressed that he was happy with his new addition, Colombian newspaper El Tiempo reported.

“Salary? I don’t think with the record of her husband that she’ll need something. We are a very small club. We don’t pay the players.”

“We knew she had offers from other clubs but she decided to chose us. I think Daniela values to be with girls her age able to train in Madrid with girls her age, in a quiet hall,” said Pascual.

The president said Ospina will not receive a salary for her new job.

“Salary? I don’t think with the record of her husband that she’ll need something. We are a very small club. We don’t pay the players,” said Pascual.

The club’s president stated that Ospina will play her first official game once she feels ready and in shape.

“She’s ready to play and travel because she’s excited to play again. We will give her all the time she needs, until she wants to fill out the roster.”

The mother put her volleyball career on a hold, when her husband got transferred to Monaco and she gave birth to the couples’ daughter.

Ospina’s world famous husband was selected for a exclusive virtual line up consisting of the most expensive transfers this summer. The Real Madrid midfielder was brought to his new club for the second biggest transfer sum in the transfer window.
