Colombia’s Police said Wednesday that a jailed ex-commander of the drug trafficking organization known as “Los Rastrojos” ordered a massacre of ten farm workers last week.
General Jose Roberto Leon, Colombia’s Director of Police, announced that the man allegedly responsible for ordering the slaughter in Santa Rosa de Osos is a former “Rastrojos” gang member who goes by the alias of “Jorge 18”.
The supposed suspect is the alleged leader of a splinter gang known as “Renacentistas,” of which three members have been identified as the killers.
“With this investigative work we identified the three individuals who were actively involved in this murder and we hope that in the coming days these arrests are achieved,” said Leon.
Police reportedly have sketches of the supposed perpetrators.
According to Leon, breaking information confirmed the police’s theory that the massacre was an apparent act of retaliation against the rural farmers who may have contributed to the arrest of Jorge 18.
The alleged mastermind was arrested several weeks ago for a myriad of crimes and is currently being held in Medellin’s Bellavista prison.
The shocking crime occurred last week in rural farm house in the center of the Antioquia department, approximately 20 miles north of Medellin.
