A consortium led by Italian builder Impregilo has won a US$501 million Colombian hydroelectric power plant contract, state-controlled power company Isagen said on Tuesday.
The plant will produce 820 megawatts of energy, Medellin-based Isagen said.
Impregilo, which recently won a US$3 billion contract to widen the Panama canal, will build the dam and underwater structures related to the Hidrosogamoso hydroelectric plant in Colombia’s northeastern province of Santander, Isagen President Luis Rico told Reuters.
“We are working to have the plant ready for operation in December 2013,” Rico said.
The consortium led by Impregilo for the project also includes Colombian construction companies Conalvias and Tecnica Vial.
