Annual textile fair Colombiatex, starting Tuesday in Medellin, will bring international business and investment opportunities to Colombia’s fashion industry.
The Colombian Institute of Export and Fashion (Inexmoda) is hosting the 24th edition of the fair in Medellin’s Plaza Mayor. The convention will host more than 400 international and domestic producers, as well as 1,500 international buyers. It is expected to generate $119 million worth of business for Colombia.
Inexmoda CEO Carlos Eduardo Botero says this year’s festival is “transcending barriers” by not only facilitating commerce between Colombian and U.S. companies, but by bringing together companies from around the world, “for example, Central American buyers can negotiate with their Argentinian counterparts.”
The free trade agreement between Colombia and the U.S., ratified in October, has opened up new opportunities in the U.S. market for Colombian entrepreneurs and international investors.
One of the many exhibitions at this year’s fair will be the Denim Review, where 11 national and international companies will showcase new structures, fibers, weights, colours and finishes of jeans.
