Colombia’s annual inflation was 2% in 2009, its lowest level since records began some 55 years ago.
In December, inflation continued to fall, hitting a level of only 0.08%, or 36 basis points less than that recorded in the same month last year, reported news site CMI Wednesday.
The inflation figure this year was more than 5 percentage points below the 7.67% recorded in 2008. The peak for 2009 occured in May with inflation reaching 2.28%.
The factors that contributed to the decline in inflation were food products, for which prices throughout the year fell 0.33%, as well as clothing and transport. The sectors to see the largest inflation gain in 2009 were education, health and housing.
