World class pilots including Englishman Dan Wheldon, Australian Scott Dixon, Brazilian Helio Castro Neves and Venezuelan Ernesto Viso will race at the 2010 Cartagena Grand Prix in November.
The presence of these drivers, who compete in the Indy Car Series championship in the U.S., will be highlight of the motor race.
The event, which takes place every year in Cartagena, was founded by the Formula Sonrisas Foundation, an organisation created by Colombia’s former Formula 1 star Juan Pablo Montoya to help Colombian children in vulnerable situations. In 2008, the Colombian Formula 2000 racer Martin Sala took over the organization of the race.
This aim of this year’s contest is to collect funds for wounded soldiers through the Tejido Humano Foundation, said the race’s head of communications Giovanny Pulido.
Such high profile competitors are not new to the capital of the Bolivar department. The winner of the 2009 race was Formula 1 ace Nelson Pique Jr.
