Indigenous leader murdered

A leader of the indigenous Paez people in the south west of Colombia was assassinated Tuesday, local media reported.

The 41-year-old Roberth Guachetá was governor of the Honduras reserve and considered a protected person by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. He was active in several indigenous associations.

The indigenous leader was found beaten to death in the village of Morales, Cauca.

Guachetá is the second indigenous to be assassinated within two weeks.
