All wars crimes, including those committed by state agents, will be tried before the International Criminal Court (ICC) deputy Prosecutor General Fernando Pareja said Thursday.
The inclusion of crimes committed by state agents means that ‘false positives’ cases – extra judicial executions of civilians passed off as guerrillas and committed by the armed forces – will now be prosecuted by the ICC along with other war crimes.
Parjea added that all crimes that damage human honor and dignity should also prosecuted by the ICC.
Colombia recently ratified full cooperation with the ICC. The Andean nation had recognized the Court from the beginning, but suspended full cooperation with the Court in order to conduct peace talks with the FARC and AUC. The ratification will go into effect on November 1.
Pareja stressed that suggestions that the Justice and Peace law would be affected by cooperation with the ICC were unfounded, El Espectador reported.
