Up to 700 passengers are expected to be affected as flights between Bogota and Madrid are cancelled as part of Iberia’s pilot strike.
The strike, scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, is being undertaken by the Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (SEPLA), and will affect four flights between Bogota and Madrid.
According to Santiago de Juan Martinez, an international spokesman for Iberia, the airline have cancelled just one of the two daily flights scheduled on this route, so as not to override an international agreement that there be at least one flight a day between Spain and Colombia.
Juan Martinez said that passengers scheduled to fly on any of the cancelled flights should receive an email with details of the strike and alternative options, which are to book a new flight or obtain a refund. Passengers are advised to contact Iberia Bogota on 6166111 for further information.
SEPLA are protesting the creation of Iberia’s new low cost airline Iberia Express, with the strike resulting in the cancellation of 266 flights across Spain, Europe, the U.S. and South America, affecting some 23,00 passengers.
