Candidate for the 2010 Colombian presidency, German Vargas Lleras, said Tuesday he will not join any anti-Uribista alliance of candidates.
Opposition candidates Rafael Pardo and Gustavo Petro expressed their willingness to talk to other parties to jointly resist a re-election bid by current President Alvaro Uribe, whose supporters are trying to change the constitution for the President to be allowed a third bid in 2010.
Vargas Lleras, also an opponent of the popular Uribe’s re-election, told Caracol Radio he is willing to form an alliance with other parties and independent presidential candidates, as long as this does not convert into an “All against Uribe” pact.
The Cambio Radical leader said it would be difficult for him to work together with social democrats Polo Democratico, but says he is set for talks with Liberal Party candidate Rafael Pardo.
