Hewlett Packard (HP) inaugurates its new Global Services Center in Medellin Thursday, continuing its expansion in Latin America.
The technology giant selected Colombia’s second biggest city to host the new center because it “is a pioneer in the work of becoming a city of knowledge and innovation, and has the political support and commitment not only of government but of private enterprise too,” argued HP spokesman Eduardo Rueda.
“After a joint analysis between the public and private sectors, the academy, government and the biggest companies in the city, HP chose Medellin for a world class services center,” said Rueda.
The annual growth of the technology sector is 11%, representing a potential trade of more than $600 million each year, according to a statement by Colombia’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Thursday.
Minister Diaz-Granados believed the move to open a new Global Services Center in Medellin could lead to 400 new jobs.
“We will start with about 150 or 160 people, and from then on we will have a growth in the coming years. The number varies depending on the dynamics of business, but we are sure that we will have significant growth from this year,” said Rueda.
