Religious visions appeared on a banana leaf Monday before the residents of the northern Colombia town of Usiacuri.
Carlina Cera was walking in her aunt’s backyard when she saw yellow marks forming on a banana leaf. At first she thought nothing of it, but on a second inspection Cera could make out the images of the Virgin of Carmen and the Sacred Heart.
Cera’s aunt, Judith Cera, has been battling cancer for over four years. Judith said the images gave her hope. “I thought about me, because I’m a person who’s been struggling against this sickness, tremendously. I know God gave me the strength and blessing,” said Judith.
Since their appearance hundreds of residents have come to see the images with their own eyes. Visitor Alvaro Bandera said, “At first I didn’t believe it [..] seeing it now, it’s a miracle.”
Local Catholic Preist Gerardo Niebles said the church had not officially classified the phenomena as a miracle. Niebles said people must decide according to their faith.
