Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced Tuesday that it has chosen Medellin as the location of a outsourced business services hub for the whole of Latin America. The new center will be part of the Colombian city’s $30 million Ruta N development.
The technology giant intends the center to be a global axis of services such as technological, administrative and sales support. HP’s choice came after the multi-national reviewed the suitability of a number of Latin American cities. “In Medellin we found confidence, respect, passion for clients, teamwork, speed, achievements and contributions, significant innovation and a holistic approach to trade,” explained HP’s vice president for strategy and corporate development Gerard Brossard.
The Ruta N development, a center of business and innovation, will be situated in northern Medellin, a short distance from the University of Antioquia, the Jardin Botanico and the Parque Explora.
The Medellin Mayor’s Office is in charge of the project which is supported by UNE-EPM Telecomunicaciones as well as HP. Mayor Alonso Salazar claimed that the project will represent a significant step forward for the Antioqian capital and will make knowledge the foundation of the city’s growth, Portafolio reports.
Ruta N will comprise three buildings. Building A will be home to the local government offices which are participating in the project as well as meeting rooms and conference centers. Building B will house all of UNE-EPM Telecomunicaciones’s research operations. HP’s global center will be based in Building C. It is hoped that Ruta N’s construction will be completed by the end of 2011.
