Persistent rains have flooded villages, destroyed crops, and inundate buildings in 15 municipalities in the Antioquia department over the last week. Approximately 4,000 people have been affected, reported Caracol Radio Wednesday.
One person was killed when a building in the village of Cedeno de Yarumal collapsed.
Rising waterlevels of the Seca and Maria rivers have destroyed 154 houses, damaged 30 local businesses, and affected 650 residents.
Torrential rains have killed more than 300 and have affected over 2 million people since the first rainy season of 2010. According to Colombian meteorlogists, weather phenomenon “La Niña” — held responsible for the excessive rains — has come to an end and the rains will stop within weeks.
