A group of Colombian and foreign hackers plan to disrupt Colombia’s May 30 presidential elections, the country’s Defense Minister Gabriel Silva said Saturday.
“We are going to prevent that [hackers] can influence the elections electronically. We know that they will do so from Colombia and abroad,” the Minister told Caracol Radio.
“The cyber world and terrorist interests have no borders. We have detected there are efforts of hackers from other countries to not just disturb the electoral process, but the country’s information security,” Silva said.
The Minister stressed that the Computer Crime Unite of the Colombia’s National Police is taking the necessary steps to prevent hackers from doing harm.
Colombia will vote for a new President on May 30. If necessary, a second round between the two leading candidates will be held on June 20.
