A guerrilla ambush of a police patrol in the Arauca state of northeast Colombia left one dead and another two wounded on Thursday.
Following the attack, authorities took the injured policemen to a hospital in the nearby town of Tame.
Authorities made no statement about the possible perpetrator of the attack. The Arauca department is a hotbed of guerrilla activity and home to both the FARC and ELN.
The attack comes as tensions have increased between the government and rebel forces across the country in what President Santos has said is a “rebel offensive.”

During this week in the region, rebel groups FARC and ELN have reportedly blocked roadways, stolen five petroleum operation vehicles, and attacked another police station, claiming the life of one policeman, according to Caracol Radio.
